Project Description

Steps to Progress is an exciting project which offers a structured pre-employability and skill building programme to supports individuals’ wellbeing and resilience, working alongside staff and external professionals to provide varied workshops and activities. The project supports The Wallich's aim to create opportunities for people with experience of homelessness by breaking down structural barriers and increasing individuals confidence to seek opportunities for progression towards employment, training and education.

This project is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Purpose of Role

The Engagement & Progression Mentor will work with internal Wallich projects and external organisations to promote and help gather referrals for the Steps to Progress project. This will include going out to visit external projects, speaking to staff and potential participants about the project, and arranging taster sessions alongside the regional Steps to Progress Mentors.

The Engagement & Progression Mentor will also support service users to access basic skills, job searching activities, volunteering placements, courses or employment. The Progression Mentor will maintain regular communication with participants and offer guidance, encouragement and practical support to aid their progression into the next phase of their journey.

Support will be provided via phone calls, emails, Teams calls and face-to-face meetings. There will be a requirement to travel to visit service users and external partners across Newport, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The Engagement & Progression Mentor will work with external partners to secure opportunities for the participants who have completed the Steps to Progress programme and work closely with the Steps to Progress mentors to make sure that the participants’ individual needs are met.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS disclosure.  

Please note: Driving Licence and use of own vehicle is essential
