Join the Board of Trustees for a homelessness charity in Wales 

The Wallich needs Trustees to help us in our mission to get people off the streets, keep people off the streets and create opportunities for people.  www.thewallich.com/about-us  

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of The Wallich, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with its charitable objectives set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association.

The Board is responsible for and liable for the governance and functioning of The Wallich, and accountable to our stakeholders and regulators, including staff, service users, The Charity Commission and Companies House.

There isn’t one type of person we’re looking for, but we do know what qualities we like:

  • People with a burning ambition to change the world for the better

  • Someone who cares about good quality services

  • A person who likes to solve problems

  • Someone good at building relationships with people

  • Someone able to challenge people respectfully

  • People who want to learn more about the third sector, housing and homelessness

We welcome applications from people with different experiences, or who might be considering their first Board role. Yes, experience is important, but personal qualities, behaviours and commitment to our values is significant too.

Are you interested in a specific role?

Currently, we are particularly interested in people with the following skills but welcome all applications:

Vice Chair

Can you chair meetings and take part in strategic discussions? Do you have experience in organisational leadership? We are looking for a Vice Chair to work alongside our Chair.

Safeguarding expertise

Have you led on safeguarding policies and procedures? Do you have experience in healthcare settings or substance use? What about safeguarding in housing or homelessness settings? We’re looking for someone to complement existing skills in this area.

Property and Housing management

Have you worked in the social housing sector or have experience of Renting Homes (Wales) Act implementation? Are you experienced in health and safety, repairs or legal compliance? We’re looking for someone who can add to the Board’s knowledge on this issue.

HR expertise

Have you worked in human resources? Do you have experience of change management or a senior leadership position? We’re looking for someone who can add to a strong Board knowledge of managing and supporting people.

We would also welcome people with Board experience, governance and risk management, and Executive experience.

Candidates will be shortlisted by a shortlisting panel of members of the Board and Shadow Board on the 27th of August 2024.

Interviews for successful candidates will be held on the 6th of September 2024 in-person in Cardiff or online via Teams.
