Project Description
The goal of the holistic hoarding service is to support people by enabling them to continue to live well and safe in their homes, retaining independence and living safer lives within their community.
The key aims of the service become the crux of all support.
- To remain safely in the home
- Homelessness prevention
- Person-centred approach
- Partnership working.
It’s important to understand who hoards and why they hoard to identify and support them properly. Hoarding isn’t a lifestyle choice or a lack of responsibility or laziness. Many factors contribute and although research cannot define any singular cause, certain factors create more risk, such as.
- Chaotic family life
- Cognitive processing, i.e. decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Other family members who have a history of hoarding
- Underlying mental health issues
Purpose of Role
The Hoarding Support Worker will be responsible for coordinating and providing a flexible person centred, solution focused service, applying an assertive engagement and positive risk-taking approach, using Housing First principles but with a view to rapidly addressing a person’s housing situation. The Worker will be working in a capacity to enable clients to access the services and interventions they need to build their resilience, gain confidence, reduce harm and acquire the personal and social skills they need to meet their aspirations and sustain their tenancy.
